SSC Underground recently had the opportunity to support a critical infrastructure project, working alongside @mccarthybuild and TT Technologies to extend sewer service from the new TSMC site north of the Loop 303 to existing @cityofphoenixaz infrastructure south of the CAP Canal.
Our team successfully pulled two 1,350-foot runs of 24” HDPE through pre-installed steel casing sleeves—placed years ago during the construction of the 51st Avenue interchange in anticipation of future utility needs. Completing this key connection was a major milestone in the miles-long sewer expansion, ensuring essential services for the growing region.

SSC Underground is thrilled to be partnering with @sundtbuilds to safely trench in the Cave Creek Water Reclamation Plant as a part of a major rehabilitation project! Our hydrovac crews have been brought in to utilize this digging practice which eliminates the risk of damaging existing underground infrastructure while keeping both the utilities and crew members safe.

The SSC Underground team is excited to have partnered with @felixconstructionco, working at a private utility substation in the Layton Lakes Community. Our scope entails using our vacuum trucks to excavate pits around and expose an existing duct bank, safely creating the space needed for Felix to do their work without the risk of damage to the existing utilities.

SSC’s vacuum crews worked with HACI Mechanical to repair a leaking chilled waterline that feeds and cools the Phoenix Convention Center. Using our vacuum excavation trucks, we excavated the leak while protecting the existing lines – all in a minimal footprint, allowing light rail traffic to be unimpacted, even though the tracks were just feet away from the work area. Once our crews exposed the pipes, HACI worked to repair the lines and install a vault for easy access to these lines – just in time for the summer heat to ensure Convention Center guests stay nice and cool!

Today we`re throwing it back to our project with @achengardner for the City of Glendale-Engineering Department. SSC was contracted to install 310` of 54" casing which was done with amazing accuracy on line and grade for a bore of this length and diameter while meeting all of the environmental constraints and reporting requirements. Our team faced the challenges of very tight tolerances for grade and alignment, extreme requirements for environmental sensitivity due to proximity to a water treatment facility, and detailed soil disturbance reporting requirements. We were able to overcome and execute at a high level, leaving us proud of a job well done!

Our SSC crews just successfully finished a 64` 30" Pilot Tube Auger Bore project in Buckeye. This involved installing a 30" casing for an electrical duct bank beneath an irrigation line, to power the new @homedepot Distribution Center that is under construction.
We want to give a big shout-out to @akkermaninc for their excellent Pilot Tube System and @michaelbyrnemfg for their exceptional Auger Boring Machine. Both products are essential to our operations at SSC!

This #TBT we are spotlighting one of our @cityofbuckeye projects where we used our 48” Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) under the railroad tracks to reroute an irrigation line. This work was done in support of a new @homedepot Distribution Facility that was being constructed. The first three pictures show the launch shaft and worksite when we were there doing the tunnel, and the last three show the site - fully restored - back to an active farm field. The structure was built to tie the irrigation into the line that we tunneled and installed. What an amazing project this was and we are so proud of our team`s execution!

This week, we`re reminiscing about our collaboration with Shephard Wesnitzer, Inc. on a @usdagov project. We supported their extensive work, potholing utilities at 70 locations in Sedona and Oak Creek for a new water line design project. Our role spanned a neighborhood on Hwy 89A between Airport Road and Sunset Drive, involving data collection and mapping of various utilities.
Our equipment, utilized for coring and keyhole technology reinstatement, ensured minimal visual impact on residential streets. Leaving the area in the same condition as our arrival, we aimed for a seamless and unobtrusive process. This project was a strong group effort and we are grateful for the opportunity!

As a part of Safety Week and OSHA`s initiative to eliminate fall fatalities, contractors all over the country will hold a National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls. Our management team at SSC Underground believes that falls can be prevented by planning, providing the right equipment, and training everyone in fall hazard recognition. Safety isn`t just a requirement; it`s our standard. When working around excavations 6 feet or deeper, our trenchless crews go beyond compliance by using personal fall arrest systems to stay protected on every job.

SSC Underground kicked off the week by dedicating an entire day to safety and wellness education. As part of Construction Safety Week, some of our key focuses are on safe driving habits, heat illness prevention, and STCKY- Stuff that can kill you. SSC was also excited to have launched our new wellness program to motivate and reinforce that taking care of your health on and off the field is part of working safely.
